Delight Delight Reduplication ( 1999 )

Delight Delight Reduplication

has a very different vibe compared to those earlier 1999-era players. It feels a bit more self-aware, like whoever made it wasn’t just trying to recreate Beatmania anymore but was also having some fun with the idea. Even the name has that playful, almost rhythmic feel to it, and that kind of carries through. It comes across less like a raw experiment and more like something with a bit of personality behind it.

If you put it next to something like BM98, it doesn’t feel like it’s trying to prove anything. It’s more like the scene had settled enough by then that people could start messing around with style and mood instead of just getting the basics working. There’s a nice charm to that, like it exists because someone wanted to make something a little different, not because they had to figure everything out from scratch.
